artist statement

I enjoy collecting objects that appear in my life in mundane but repetitive ways. They may not seem significant on the surface, but after more consideration they hold meaning beyond their original function. My art analyzes these objects for the role they play in a bigger theme or system. The objects then become a medium of my work as I physically dissect them. I break a material down, so I can build it back up in a way that reflects the message I wish to communicate.

In To Do and Done, I shift the role of my 2020 agenda from planning the future to capturing the past. To repurpose this book, I collected photos taken each week and printed them over each page of the agenda. While the written script is concerned with organizing and executing future events, the overlaid images reflect memories of moments that actually took place. Together, they crystallize future thought and present experience in an artifact that ultimately documents the past.
